Getaways to make the time change more bearable.
One of the most defining moments of autumn is the famous time change, which, for now still takes place on the last Sunday of October. Almost everyone suffers its consequences for a few days, so why not make it more manageable and treat ourselves to that getaway we truly deserve? It is also a great opportunity to plan an incentive trip. In any case, here are some ideas for travelling during the November long weekend..
Zaragoza and the Fiestas del Pilar. While the entire country celebrates Hispanic Heritage Day, Zaragoza also celebrates its main festival in honor of its patron saint. Every October, for ten days, more than 500 cultural and recreational events take, offering everyone in the city the chance to enjoy its festivities and culture. Highlights include the Opening Ceremony in Plaza del Pilar, the Rosario de la Aurora, activities in the squares in the historic centre’s square, the parade of giants and big-heads, gastronomic showcases, the Offering of Fruits, the Rosario de Cristal, and the fireworks are some of the most exciting events. Special mention goes to the Flower Offering on the 12th, where citizens from Aragón and all over the world parade in their regional costumes to lay millions of flowers at the feet of the Virgin.
Granada and the Tarantos Caves. Escape to Granada to discover one of the most iconic cities in Andalusia, home to famous landmarks such as the Alhambra and the viewpoint in the Albaicín district. At the end of the Paseo de los Tristes, you’ll find the Casa del Chapiz, a unique 16th century Moorish building composed of two houses from the era, located in the aforementioned district. Declared a Cultural Heritage Site, it is now home to the School of Arabic Studies. As night falls, don’t miss an incredibly special event in the Sacromonte neighbourhood, the most flamenco of all the city’s areas. Here, you can find the Tarantos Caves, a place brimming with art, offering a performance of the purest and most passionate flamenco.
Lisbon and Sintra. What is it about Lisbon that captures the heart of everyone who visits? To begin with, there’s the charismatic Alfama district, an old fishing neighbourhood with its cobblestone streets. Secondly, a ride on tram 28, a small, yellow vintage carriage with wooden seats, will take you from one spot to another across the city. Lastly, in addition to São George Castle, it’s worth visiting some viewpoints, such as São Pedro de Alcântara.
Alcântara, one of the icons of Lisbon. The Santa Lucia viewpoint, spectacular for both its views and its tile decoration; and the Gracia viewpoint, where the pine trees create a relaxing atmosphere, offering a glimpse of the entire city. Meanwhile, Sintra is a charming town near Lisbon, known for its fascinating historic buildings and beautiful natural landscapes.
3 days in Paris. Few cities in the world can compete with magnificent Paris, the capital of France and a cosmopolitan city, full of life and famous monuments. All artistic styles come together in this vast metropolis, and its entertainment options are nearly endless. We recommend taking a stroll along the banks of the Seine at dusk, enjoying the city’s skyline illuminated by moonlight. Don’t miss the treasures of the Île de la Cité, an essential stop on any trip to Paris. The Montmartre district, perched on a hill, has a special, bohemian charm, known as the artists’ neighbourhood.
Brussels and Bruges. This getaway to make the time change more bearable will take you to Brussels, with its impressive Grand Place, majestic Royal Palace, and the symbol of Brussels for many of its residents: Mannekin Pis. If you are a comic book fan, you can’t miss out the Comic Route, which features 40 murals scattered throughout the city, playing tribute to characters like Tintin, Lucky Luke, and the Smurfs. Belgium boasts over 1.100 beer brands, attracting thousands of curious visitors eager to learn more about them. You’ll also love exploring the canals of Bruges, tasting its delicious chocolate, and visiting the Rosary Quay, where the Dijver, one of the most important canals in Bruges, flows. Did you know it has been the most photographed spot in the city for years?
Autumn has arrived with full force, and it will continue that way, with time change included. It’s a great moment for a getaway to explore interesting cities in Spain and other European destinations full of charm and possibilities.
